Troubleshooting
Most connection problems come from the site's host, a security plugin or caching. Find the message you see below.
"The site did not return JSON"
Sitefar reached the site but didn't get an answer from the connector.
- Check Sitefar Connector is installed and active.
- Open
https://your-site.com/wp-json/in a browser. If it doesn't show JSON, the REST API is blocked: look for a security plugin setting such as "disable REST API", a maintenance or "coming soon" mode, or a host or Cloudflare challenge page. - Some hosts block requests from servers. Ask them to allow requests to
/wp-json/sitepilot/.
"WordPress rejected the request"
The username or application password wasn't accepted, or the user isn't allowed to do this.
- Check the username (not the email address) and paste the application password again.
- Make sure the application password hasn't been revoked.
- The user must be an administrator, able to update plugins and themes.
No "Application Passwords" section in WordPress
- Application passwords need the site to run on HTTPS.
- Some security plugins (for example Wordfence or Solid Security) can switch them off. Look for an "application passwords" setting and allow them, at least for your account.
"This site resolves to a private or unsupported network address"
Sitefar only connects to sites on the public internet. Local, staging-only or intranet sites can't be connected.
"The request timed out"
The site took longer than two minutes to answer. The change may still have finished. Sync the site and check its state before trying again. Slow sites often get faster after updates or with caching.
Sitefar shows old versions after a change
Sitefar adds a unique address to each request so page caches don't serve old answers. If a cache or CDN still does, exclude /wp-json/sitepilot/ from caching, then Sync.
"... needs Sitefar Connector 1.x or later"
The site runs an older connector. In WordPress, go to Dashboard → Updates (or Plugins), update Sitefar Connector, then Sync in Sitefar. If no update shows up, download the latest ZIP from the app and upload it over the old one.
Other limits
- Multisite networks aren't supported yet.
- Premium plugin updates need an active licence.
